The Ethics of Outsourcing

The Ethics of Outsourcing

Congratulations. This, like your other posts, is a technically careful take on outsoucing. It teaches the concept well and provides sound examples. I really liked it. There is one key element, however, that I think should also be considered. There is an ethical / moral side to outsourcing that should be addressed. The $75 some Argentinean professionals charged you for “many painful hours of work” is quite telling. And I’m not gonna go bleeding heart on this or be patronizing in any way. It is simply indicative of important issues that affect outsourcing. I have outsourced work for a number of years but – apparently like you – had not thought of those side ramifications that accompany the top dollar, the benefit, the bottom line. What is good for me, I suppose, ought to be good for those who do it for me as well as for those around me that no longer get to do it because they are too expensive. This is particularly true with International outsourcing where more than giving work to whom we seem might need it, for something we also really need as cheaply as we can get, may very well maintain the environment that keeps others somewhat servile. I say this most respectfully. While business may be business we should be careful with what we do with and to others.
