New Task Management/To-Do App for Mac Os X
Orionbelt | Feb 24 2006
Hello, I'm looking for users to test my new application. This is a pre-Beta release. It should work fine but it's missing some features. If you could test it and let me know any problems, features request, improvements, etc I would really appreciate it. You can find the download here: http://www.orionbelt.com/EasyTask.dmg It requires Tiger. (If anybody has an Intel Mac could you let me know if it runs on it. Thanks) Here are some of the features that I'll be adding soon: - iCal interoperability (sync with iCals To-Do Calendar) The web site currently only shows the windows version but I'll be working on that over the weekend. Thank you for your help! 22 Comments

On first blush, I really like the simplicity of this. Ping me when you go public with the Mac version. Good work. »

Welcome to flavor country. I'm just curious, how did you like development for OS X versus Windows? Slightly off-topic, I know. FWIW I've downloaded your application and I'm trying it out as we speak. This could be very interesting. If you get this thing sync'ing with iCal and such you'll be well on your way. »

Thank you both for your comments! Merlin: I'll let you know once I release the full version. Emory: Cocoa/ObjC/Xcode it's very different from VisualStudio/C#. On my own personal experience Cocoa comes on top. My only complaint would be that the intelliSense on Visual Studio is far better that the one in XCode but otherwise the Cocoa experience was far better than Windows. Keep in mind that I like Mac OS X far better than windows so there is a little bias towards the Mac platform ;-) Thanks, »

Looks good. I like the email metaphor, and suggest embracing it fully. I would like to see the same preview options I now have for email, namely an option for previewing the first two lines of the content, and having a preview window option below the task list. So often, when you put in a task and a description, you lose the description until you are performing or editing the task. It would be nice to be able to jog your memory about the task without opening it. Also, I'd benefit from a timer. Maybe having a clock icon that starts and stops a timer on the selected task. This would help me for billing, especially if you kept a simple log of the snippets and a total running time. You may also want to consider raising your price point. $14.95 is the same as $19.95 to our advertising-soaked brains. You might be missing out on some revenue there. Keep going, I can't wait to see the end result! »

Scott, The timer is a very good idea. I took your advice and increased the price to 19.99. Thanks. I have updated a few things on the app. You can get the latest version from the same place. http://www.orionbelt.com/EasyTask.dmg - New Toolbar Icons Thanks, »
Nice improvementsSubmitted by spalmer47 on March 1, 2006 - 3:57am.
My marketing skills rule, but my personal finance skills need work; I think I just cost myself $5. :) Printing works well. Are you planning to allow a user to print only one project (or selected projects)? Also, I'd like to be able to see the tasks under their date or project heading when printed. I like the drawer. It helps to mitigate the preview issues I mentioned before. Couple of feature/roadmap questions. Have you thought about linking tasks? How about being able to assign multiple projects and/or contexts for a single task? »

Yes, you'll be able to print all your tasks for the day, selected projects, etc sorted by Context/Date. The printed page will also receive some kind of "template" to make it look better and more useful. The drawer allows for the "preview" mode without cluttering the interface. I'll add the timers in there too. Yes, in the future you'll be able to assign a task to more than one Project/Context and many other things :-) Thanks, »
