Need to find a solution for temp lists

I want to put lists on various containers listing what is in the container.

I was thinking that I'd tick off the items that were removed and erase the tick mark when the item was returned.

Any thoughts on how I might best go about this, seeing that a "pencil-eraser" combination is not exactly what I had in mind?
