After extensive research ....

After extensive research Ive come the conclusion that I just cant find a App or Web App that seems right for my GTD.
I think I know how I want it to look and work but cant seem to tally that up to an App. Ive used Moleskines for years and even before that a Filofax but now I want App but Im struggling.
I know that on the front page of the App I want a 'Next Action' box that lists the next 1 or 2 items, in each Project, that needs to be done to move a Project along (also that it can be listed in either project or context view). I know Id like a project, action and context screen/page and obviously some archive and review screens for those tasks not completed etc.
Ive trawled around and tested various Apps but I cant escape the feeling Im missing something.
Im not up to building it myself, mores the pity, but if anyone was in the same postion as me and has found a way through , I ask politely can you give me a pointer?
Thanks so much for reading, I hope Im not being a bore and some of you will take me under your wing and help.

re: Can't Find Perfect GTD App

Have you checked out the extensive listing of GTD apps and reviews at the following website?

http://www.atpm.com/13.02/next-actions.shtml

You may be able to find something close to what you are looking for there.

I would suggest that you not throw software at this problem.

Have you tired Tracks, however? Tracks is quite good, in spite of my bitching that it doesn't work with mobile devices.

@ToddV. Thanks yeh, Ive been through so much research before I came here only so I dont waste peoples time more than is necessary.
I appreciate you covering all bases though and helping me out. I spose a perfect 'for me' system is one I make myself otherwise we are all locked by the constraints of the developer.

WHich brings me round to
@emory. I take your point at not throwing software at it. I really have no need for a paper solution and to be frank ,and I find it best to be brutally frank with myself on this, I think Id make a total mess of my work area if I tried to use a card system.
I have tried Tracks and find it easy to use, even though is uneasy on the eye. Id like to install it on my machine so I dont have to rely on "tracks.tra.in" and although Ive had luck installing Alex Kings "Tasks Jr." using MAMP to start up an Apache Server/SQLite on my Mac I cant seem to get my head around Tracks installation. But then I am forever afraid of Terminal.

thanks to you both for your help, its appreciated.

I had luck using Locomotive, as detailed here.

New Mac GTD app

Second that Locomotive thing. The whole idea of installing Tracks seemed way beyond my amateur wannabe-geek skills. Someone suggested Locomotive and even though the steps for Tracks & Locomotive were still geeky and still outside my comfort zone, it wasn't too far for me to reach.

I am currently playing around with a new program that I absolutely adore. I would have bought it already, but waiting to see how it compares with OmniFu. It doesn't directly address your next action thing (except maybe how you date a task), but it does do the project, context and due date views. Out of every single Mac GTD app I've checked out, this one is really working for me. It's called What ToDo.

@Craig. Thanks for that link...

@Craig. Thanks for that link Craig, that seems invaluable and something along the lines of the MAMP server App that Im running at the moment to try out Alex Kings Tasks Jr. Ill give it a whirl although Im still bothered that Tracks isnt as visually appealing as it could be, I may look into the styling of it and see if I can come up with a skin of some sort.

@Noodle. Thanks for the tip. It seems that this App is the closest Im going to get and it does offer a lot more along the lines of my needs than Actiontastic and Ghost Action.
I wonder if a polite email to the deverlops of some of these Apps could direct them my way? Haha... I suppose thats wishful thinking but you never know. At least they may consider it or maybe explain why a "next action" folder isnt something theyd wish to implement.

It never hurts to ask. They can only say no, and we've already got no.

I am forwarding your next action suggestion to the developer of What ToDo.

The developer is very responsive.

Vitalist

Vitalist could be your best bet -- it has a "dashboard" page. It's not next aactions by project, but by due date. Could be useful.

Nozbe could work well also.

@noodle. Thanks for forwarding the idea onto WhatTodo. I do like this App and the ability to make sub-projects, although a little "off-gtd perfect" if I can use that expression, it something Ive found in real life is really useful.
@dancingbrook. EasyTask is another good App but I still am torn with making how I want to work fit in with the App of my choice. Although Im not naive enough to think that I was going to find an App that fitted me like a glove and who knows if the way Im workign wouldnt be improved with a prolonged usage of their workflow plans. Ill certainly look into dropping a suggestion, thanks for the tip.
@frankienoon01. Yes Vitalist is a lovely user interface thanks for the sugegstion.
