Circa/Rollabind cover material, or A4 covers
aef | Mar 30 2007
I'm in the UK, and seeking recommendations for what material to use for Circa/Rollabind notebook covers, or for a source of pre-made A4 covers. I have a Rollabind desktop punch, and any material for home-made covers needs to be "punchable" with that. So far I'm using the cardboard backings from some A4 refill pads, but I'm hoping for something stiffer and, hopefully, better-looking. Advice gratefully received... aef 6 Comments

In case anyone else has the same issue... I found some A4 Rollabind-ish notepads in WHSmith, which come with plastic covers and plastic tabbed dividers. They're not quite the same as Rollabind (the holes are more 'T'-shaped than mushroom-shaped), but they're semi-compatible. In particular, paper punched with my Rollabind punch fits the notebooks, and the covers and dividers fit the small-sized Rollabind rings I have, but not the medium size - I think the middle of the discs is too thick. The rings, covers and dividers all seem good and work well. The paper which comes in the notebooks is a bit flimsy, though, and can get chewed-up around the holes. I dumped all the paper from the notebooks in the recycling bin and just use my own. They were around ?5 per notebook. Anthony »

This may not be useful in the UK, but at my local office store (Office Despot), I found presentation covers intended to be used with a comb binding system, but which were not yet punched for comb binding. They came in a variety of weights, materials, and textures. If it can be punched for comb binding, it can probably be punched for rollabind, too. »

There are a number of options, imo. You can print out an image on heavy photo paper stock (use borderless if your printer has that capability), you can laminate a regular page, or cover one of those cardboard backers with a nice looking paper. I often use the covers jason.mcbrayer mentioned, but usually the clear ones and insert an image I've printed behind it. You also might want to check a Clairefontaine seller near you. Here in the US, http://www.pendemonium.com has a limited supply of A4 Clairefontaine 'Clairing' notebooks, which feature a plastic square pattern cover and Circa-like rings. »

Pendemonium, Clairfontaine page with Clairing notebooksSubmitted by Cathmac on May 30, 2007 - 9:59am.
aef, However, since it is a little difficult to find I'll try describing it. From the home page go to the left side of the page. Scroll down about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way down and click "Stationary". Then click "Clairfontaine" in the first box in the second column. Go 1/4th of the way down the page to the "Clairing" notebooks: CLA-C8135, 144 pages/72 sheets, Horizontal ruling, 210 x 297mm/8.25 x 11.75 inches. HTH, ~Cath »

A little late I know, but I found what you are looking for in the UK. Have a look at this page: “http://www.manufactum.co.uk/Kategorie/189615/Atoma.html” Not cheap but seems good quality. I’ve ordered some bits from them, and am waiting for them to arrive. What’s interesting is that you don’t have to order a notebook, but can order the rings, the covers (ordinary or wide), index tabs, and the paper style you like from the selection available. They also do a punch but it’s rather expensive. Robert »
