Improving Presentations - a Modest Change with Big Effects

My firm just posted this ten-minute presentation to give prospective clients a feel for what we do.

Given the presentation’s focus on making a small change in trade for a big impact, and given the great posts on presentations Merlin’s written, I thought it appropriate to share it here.

Turning projects into procedural documentation

I like the idea of, and use the structure of projects with clearly defined goals. Once a project is complete, if the output/result of it has any kind of ongoing use and maintenance, I’m curious how people handle the transition from project documentation to procedural documentation.  read more »

could use some friends to build up an online toy/design community

Okay, so my friend, he has a sweet, sweet, sweeter than sweet domain name.

He’s been sitting on it for like, a year. I don’t want to say, because I don’t want this site archived 20 years from now on Google, but it’s basically.. well, from what he mentions, it sounds pretty ambitious.

Of course, he’s not sure where to find the sort of folks who aren’t afraid to become part of something new, maybe now and then post, or heck, travel around places like Istanbul and check out the latest collector kaleidoscope designs.  read more »

Graduate Student looking for advice w/GTD related project

Hello- I am a graduate student at George Mason University in the Human Factors and Applied Cognition program. My current project is understand tasks that people perform on a daily basis in both their personal and business life. The survey is comprised of demographic questions, listing personal and business tasks and a likert scale of perceptions of computing devices. I am post this since I have not receive many responses to my survey when I have posted it to other site forums.  read more »

Life as Roleplaying Game: beyond metaphor

UPDATED.

The purpose of those post is to start a discussion on viewing self-betterment/productivity hacking/etc as a role-playing-game-like character advancement process. I have read some places of this idea as a compelling metaphor, but I am considering the value of moving it beyond metaphor, to the point that I am literally creating a "character class" for myself and designing a character sheet, etc.
