TextEdit with crash recovery?

Does anyone know of a lightweight editor for the Mac, a la TextEdit, but with crash recovery or auto save?

For what will hopefully be the last time tonight, my Mac crashed and I had some unsaved notes in TextEdit. I lose so much time racking my brain trying to think what they were... but they didn't seem worth saving at the time. Arg.
