Suggestions for categories and forum break-out?

Okay: so far, so good.

Next up, let's talk about the linchpin IMHO for a successful board (apart from its users of course): the categories and organization.

Again, random thoughts to get things rolling.

* separate areas for different technologies
* lofi & paper
* mac
* linux
* wintel
* pda/mobile
* areas for the most popular topic areas
* productivity and time management (including procrastination, GTD, etc.)
* life hacks
* writing, making, and general creativity
* mind and spirit (stress reduction, meditation, etc.)
* grabass, "anything goes" area
* admin - general throat clearing and announcements

Bang on it. Too much? Too little? Where do we most need to see breakouts?

I think breaking those _all_...

I think breaking those _all_ out might be a bit much, but what about a dedicated GTD area:

* Getting Things Done
* Help for Newbies
* Implementation & Maintenance
* Hacking GTD
* GTD for [Whoever]

Would something like that appeal?

"Canonical Getting Things Done" sounds like a winner.

I'd suggest that the criteria for breaking out into another forum would be incompatibility; GTD with mac-only applications (Quicksilver, DEVONThink), GTD with windows-only applications (Activewords, Outlook GTD Plugin). That criteria would suggest that there should be a cross-platform "GTD on a computer" section, for web applications, textfiles and scripts to manage them, email hacks, and the like.

My point is that since dividing a board like this up often creates separate (and sometimes exclusive) affinity groups, you want to try and carve the group at the joints.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless
