The Merlin Show: John Roderick, Jesse Thorn, true HD, plus a cool new Flash player
Merlin Mann | Jun 5 2007
Over on my video podcast, The Merlin Show, we recently wrapped up our epic 4-part interview with John Roderick from The Long Winters (n.b.: part 3 is my favorite episode of the show so far). And, just yesterday, we posted the first in a six (6) part visit with America’s Radio Sweetheart, Jesse Thorn, who’s the host of the nationally syndicated public radio program (and, arguably, the best podcast [iTunes] in America), The Sound of Young America. (And now I can’t stop saying “webmobisode” — damn you, Jesse Thorn). I hope you’ll stop by if you haven’t visited with us in a while. Plus — thanks to the generous nerd skillz of our friends over at Blip.tv — you can now watch each and every episode of The Merlin Show from the comfort of this handy dandy Flash viewer. (Note that you can jump to any episode by clicking on “ And, finally, please consider subscribing to The Merlin Show in iTunes or via the podcatcher of your choice. As of our latest episode, the Apple TV version of the feed goes out at full-on HD 720p (thanks, HV-20s!).

Hey Terry, Thanks! I’ll make sure to let our Flash guys know that you like the player! The code for the player isn’t freely available, but you’re more than welcome to use it if you use blip.tv as your video host! Yours, Mike Hudack Co-founder & CEO, blip.tv »

Please, please, please. Another request for an audio only version. Most of your shows are just two guys talking to each other. The high bandwidth visuals don’t add a lot to the content, but do prevent me from listening to you on my Nano, Shuffle, or 4G iPod while walking the dog or sitting on Muni. »

Blip.tv is simply the best choice for video podcasters. The flexibility alone… and the dedication and the correct vision underpinning it, a winning combination. »

Merlin: I noticed that “Judith Thorn” was listed in the Thanks part of the credits… is that Jesse’s mom, and are you thanking her for the use of her car 4 years ago? If so, how self-referentially humorous! (Um… that sentence sounds very Bertie Wooster. I promise I don’t usually talk like that.) »

That is the most elegant multi-layer, interactive Flash player I’ve seen! Usually, they’re so ‘in-yer-face’ it’s counter-productive. Is the code for this thing freely available? »

I dunno, Terry. Might be worth asking the Blip folks. I like that you get to choose your own colors for the basic look. »

Apologies for the technologically backwards request, but how about an audio version only of the podcast like Diggnation does? Then I can listen to it on my 4G iPod. Cheers, Simon »
