Symbian UIQ and Series 80: Projekt

I've been having a lot of success with managing my action lists in an application called Projekt.

The pros:

Writes nice outlines, easy to read and use.
Exports as HTML or OPML, meaning you can work your lists on your desktop too, if you have an OPML editor (such as OmniOutliner).
You can manage your lists on the Memory Stick Duo (UIQ) or MMC (Series 80) and back them up for safekeeping easily (or use Bluetooth Send File function)
You may link items in outlines/projects to existing or new Tasks, Contacts, Appointments (sweet) giving nice context to contacts or tasks from your list.
Will prefix tasks created with context/project.

The cons:

No syncronization with desktop
Doesn't mark things as "complete" in Projekt if you finish it off in the Tasks application

I've been liking it so far. It means that my action lists aren't in iCal by default, but that seems to be okay so far, since iCal isn't granular enough for GTD in most circumstances anyway. You can create a top-level "task" on a per-project basis and check off the micro-tasks in your list, which means you can get a nice glance at the Tasks application to see what your overall projects are. Not too shabby. Could be better.

This is probably the best way to do GTD on Symbian devices, but there is no Series 60 port.

Update: The Series 80 version...

Update: The Series 80 version does permit you to "sync" task status against list items in Projekt. Leet. I would imagine the reason the UIQ version lacks this is because of limitations in UIQ, but I could be wrong.

I have request status sync...

I have request status sync on the UIQ version of Projekt to bring it in-line with the Series 80 features of the application. My S80 device is a loaner so I can't rely on it or buy a license for projekt on S80.

If only the 9500 didn't cost $600!

Anyway, here's the thread on the author's webpage:

In that thread on kylom...

In that thread on kylom is a build that does the status sync. Pretty sweet. Developer turned it around quickly and now my master lists are updated against Tasks information on my P910.

I should outline this process that I use for GTD and will try to do so soon.

S60 3rd Edition

There is now a version of Projekt for S60 3rd Edition:

Sure 'nuff!

I happily bought it for my e61i, but I’ve been back on my n95 most of the time these days.

That’s the bummer about mobile software. You usually get a license locked to one IMEI. Sigh.

Thanks for the s60 build though, Kylom. It’s solid.

MobileGTD implementation for Series 60 phones

I have written a GTD application for S60 phones. It's called MobileGTD and can be found on
http://code.google.com/p/mobilegtd/

It's very GTD centric and does not have a lot of extra functionality, but it does its job very well. Here is the description from the web page:

MobileGTD turns your Series 60 phone into a GTD notebook on steroids
Features

* Based on a simple file and directory structure (easy synchronization with PC)
* Use your favourite file explorer to browse your actions
* Usable as a simple inbox, allowing you to create projects on the fly
* Searchable project list view
* Project editing functionality (add/remove actions/infos)
* Processing functionality (automatically find done actions)
* Review assistance (find projects with no active next action and projects that have not changed for a certain time)
