Suggestions for Good Outliner for my PDA
Thumbtack | Feb 1 2006
Any suggestions for a good Outliner Program for my Treo 650? I'd like to utilize something more than just a listmaker. It would also be great if I could use it with KGTD for my Mac. Any advice would be great. Thanks 7 Comments

I have a Treo 650 and love using ShadowPlan (available at www.codejedi.com). Another popular GTD-friendly outliner is Bonsai (www.natara.com). Both apps have desktop components, although I'm not sure if Bonsai's is compatible with Mac (I do know that Shadow's is Mac-compliant, though). I'm not sure if either are kGTD compatible, although I've heard of OmniShadow as a way to view your ShadowPlan data in OmniOutliner, which is what I believe kGTD is based on (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Good luck! »

Excellent suggestions. Bonsai seems like it has more features, but I'll guess I'll try the demos to find out. Thanks again. »

Thought Manager is a nice outliner. Very simple, nice interface. »
I've tried Bonsai, Shadow Plan,...Submitted by birwin on February 5, 2006 - 10:28am.
I've tried Bonsai, Shadow Plan, BrainForest, and ThoughtManager. If you're just looking for a no frills outliner, I found ThoughtManager to be the nicest looking and friendliest one of the bunch. If you need to sync your outlines between a Mac and your handheld, you want to look at BrainForest or Shadow Plan. BrainForest has a desktop app that runs on the Mac, while there is a script available for OmniOutliner that lets you sync your OO documents with ShadowPlan. HTH. I'm a fan of shadowplan. I think I'll finally buy it over the summer. Amit »
Which outliner "won the war"???Submitted by Shepherd Jim on March 4, 2008 - 11:53am.
I was just wondering if The Green Man ever finally concluded on which outlining software he was going to stake his life? I used to use Bonsai but forsook it a few years ago when it seemed to be crashing my Palm PDA of that erae. I’m now again feeling the need to structure myself outlinedly — just heard Steve Gibson on Security Now with Leo Laporte praising ThoughtManager Desktop. I’ve been doodling around for a few minutes researching the current “Outliner World” and read where Merlin had maybe already done all the hard work for me. Which is currently the outlining software of choice? »

Progect is a free outliner from Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/progect I used it for a long time and liked it. I have lost track of its development. I eventually switched to Shadow for the syncing to the Mac desktop. I ended up not using the desktop much. It is possible to open Shadow outlines in OOP. There has not been a version of Shadow released since 2004 I believe. It is a very robust Palm app still, though. Bonsai does not have a Mac desktop. »
