Finding my voice

While I dislike the term "blog", I admit I am drawn to the idea of putting the madness within on the web for all to see. I'm thinking I might have something to say that someone finds useful. My problem is I have trouble de-cluttering my thinking enough to find a voice and start writing. There's so much I think about but much of it is in various states of disarray.

I imagine most people will respond with "just do it" sentiments and I appreciate that encouragement in advance :). What I'd like is to hear some stories of how other writers here got started and get some pointers on developing story ideas. Also, how have you gotten your blog's address "out there" so people know about it?

I can't help with the other stuff (as evidenced by my own blog) but this bit is rather easy. Technorati and PingOMatic are your friends. If you use Wordpress or MoveableType (I think) they will have built in support for PingOMatic. hth

I don't really blog much,...

I don't really blog much, and I don't journal much anymore, but I used to be really good about journaling half an hour each morning. (Morning Pages.)

For that kind of writing, I "just do it."

It may help to jot things down onto notecards and then organize them, typing them as they fall in place. Writing papers in school, a similar approach worked: make thorough notes, write a good outline, and then I can write the paper in just a few hours the night before it's due. It writes iteself.

Speaking of writing, have you ever considered NaNoWriMo? I haven't done it, but a couple of my friends have, and they're really enjoyed it.
