my iPod/iTunes @ACTION folder

i'm listening to my iPod, and then I think "Oh, I should put this song on that mix I'm making for so-and-so" or "this track sounds distorted, I should re-rip this CD." How do I capture that? I've reserved the one-star rating to denote ACTION (using ratings 2-5 for their customary use), so I tag the song with a one-star rating on the fly. Then I have a smart playlist on my home machine that only includes one-star songs, called, unsurprisingly, @ACTION.

Great idea. In a similar fashion, I've used the 1-star rating for non-standard content (for my tastes anyway): soundtracks, duplicate songs, etc.: stuff I don't want randomized in my mixes.

Is there a way to put a rating on a song on the iPod (not using iTunes). I have a 4G model (click wheel)? I have looked all over and cannot find anything.

I don't know about the new fangled iPods but my 2gen 20gig assigns ratings by clicking the center button while the song is playing. It cycles through volume, rating, and something else.
