Passport Expiration

A friend of mine just had to pay some big bucks because a week or so before she was set to leave to Japan she discovered that her passport had expired.

So, I thought I would pass along the suggestion to mark your calendars as to when your passport is set to expire.

My augmented tickle file - 53 folders

I thought I should add that I augmented my tickle file for the next ten years (10 folders labeled 0-9) and put things like passport expiration and driver's license expiration in there.

I don't use an electronic calendar, so this seems like the best place to store these tidbits.

Warning - old passports

Another thing to be careful of in these days of heightened security - older passports (issued 5-6 years ago) may not be machine readable and this can cause problems entering some countries, especially the USA. Also you cannot transit the USA, that is stay in the international lounge waiting for a connection, without valid documents.

So if you have an old passport it pays to check if it is still usable
