Idea-collecting Application
awe | Jun 29 2007
Hi everybody, I'm looking for an app that allows me to store and view my ideas in various ways: often, when working on a particular project, I come up with bits and pieces of ideas or creative material that I need to put somewhere and connect to other ideas. Lists are okay, but you tend to lose overview, because, well, they are lists. Also, you can't really connect ideas. Mind Maps are great, but only at a later stage of a project, when you know which nodes to use and how to connect them. But I find most Mind Map to be too "stiff". Thanks! Alex 7 Comments

I think you need a mind map app that also allows freeform and outline style input. NovaMind comes to mind, or even inspiration. Nova has advantaes of more transfer options. » POSTED IN:

I have heard great things about Tinderbox and that the learning curve is a little steep. But that it's endlessly customizable. Scriptable. Malleable. It might be what you're looking for. I played with it a little when looking for a GTD app. The learning curve was a little steep for me. » POSTED IN:

I just ran into Curio - perhaps that would suit your needs. (Macworld's buying advice: "If you find notebooks, outliners, and information managers too confining, Curio will give your imagination the space to run free. Despite some minor problems, its ability to pull together disparate items makes it a fantastic, catch-all tool.") » POSTED IN:

Craig, Thanks for the reminder. I'd forgotten about Curio, and it appears it has evolved nicely. I'll have to look closely again. And noodle, Tinderbox is also one of those that sits outside the periphery of my focus, and certainly worth considering. Peter » POSTED IN:
