Spell Catcher vs. TextExpander vs. Typinator vs. TypeIt4Me, etc.

Has anyone used more than one of these apps who could describe the advantages and disadvantages of each or the difference in how each one works? Also do any of these programs import Microsoft AutoCorrect files because I have built up a huge library of shortcuts in mine and wish there were a way of exporting it to a universal application. Thanks. Robyn 4 Comments

I’m a user of TypinatorSubmitted by kevin on September 21, 2007 - 3:12pm.
I’m a user of Typinator and I used TextExpander for awhile. I wish I had forked over the money for TextExpander instead, but one of these guys, maybe it was Daring Fireball, had a discount offer for Typinator and I impulsed it. My only real complaint is that Typinator won’t run in the system tray — It has to sit in the dock. Otherwise it’s fine. TextExpander felt a little nicer because of the cool sound effect it would play when it replaced something. »
In case you're still interestedSubmitted by danray on October 4, 2007 - 9:44am.
I too use Typinator. To Kevin’s complaint, I had the same issue before I found this: http://www.ergonis.com/products/typinator/TypinatorWithoutDockIcon.pdf. There’s also an option to play a sound on every replacement, but I switched it off about a minute after installation. As far importing from MS Word, I don’t think it supports that. However, the developer recently pushed out a huuuge auto-correct dictionary (bigger than the default one) that’s linked from Typinator’s front page. »
Exporting MS Word Autocorrect to TypeIt4Me - YES!Submitted by rettore on October 12, 2007 - 8:24pm.
Registered users of TypeIt4Me can request a VBA script to export their MS Word autotext/autocorrect entries to a TypeIt4Me file. Please email support@typeit4me.com if you would like to discuss a "sidegrade" offer from any of the above mentioned programs to TypeIt4Me. Hope this helps, Riccardo Ettore "Still coding, after all these years" »
