Subscribe to Make Magazine for 40% off
Merlin Mann | Feb 16 2005
Subscriptions to O’Reilly’s new book-length magazine, Make—which features a regular “Life Hacks” column by Danny and me—are now available via Amazon for $35/year, about 40% off the news stand price. (Fine print: subscriptions via Amazon start with Issue #2. See update, below) Make features all kinds of cool, techy home projects for nerds, and is receiving great notices. Update 2005-02-16T22:01Please note that subscriptions ordered through Amazon will commence with Issue #2 (June, 2005). However, Issue #1 can now be ordered as an individual book exclusively from Amazon until March 16th. Thereafter, Make also will be available at finer book stores and news stands everywhere. In the mean time, if you want your Make subscription to start with issue #1, you can still subscribe through the nice folks at O’Reilly for the same discounted price. Many thanks to Sean H. for asking the question about this; I’m so glad we caught this early, and I do apologize for any mixup or inconvenience. 13 Comments

If we subscribe now (and through this link), will we still get the first issue? Or will it end up being the second issue? »

Yeah, same here, so it’s what I figured. I just want to avoid waiting to see if #1 or #2 ends up in my mailbox before going out and getting #1 from the news stand. Thanks for the help! »

Sean: Bad-ish news. See the update. The great news is I’m assured that you can still subscribe direct from O’Reilly and get issue #1 included. Yay. Thanks so much for asking about this—I uncritically assumed that the Amazon subscription would start with issue #1. Apparently I know more about guessing than I do about the periodical game. :-) I do sincerely apologize for the mixup. »

I have been invited to step in a (hopefully) clarify a few things. First, through a special arrangement with Amazon, single-copy sales of MAKE are available exclusively through Amazon until March 16th. Thereafter, please ask for it at your favorite neighborhood bookstore or news stand. Here’s Amazon’s link for single-copy MAKE sales: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596009224/qid%3D1107992308/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-0548141-0996648 You can order a one-year subscription to MAKE (starting with the next quarterly issue) from Amazon at: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0007RNI5K/103-0548141-0996648 Or you can always subscribe to MAKE directly through O’Reilly at: http://www.makezine.com/ If you subscribe directly from O’Reilly through April, we will start your subscription with the first issue. If you subscribe after April, but you’d still like to start with the first issue, no problem. Simply call our our MAKE customer service number 866-289-8847 (US + Canada), or 818-487-2037 (all other countries). We’ll bend over backwards to work it out for you. If you do get it through O’Reilly, use promotional code “M5ZXML” to get 5 issues at the same subscription price as 4 issues. »
