Eightface: "Status Page" plugin for WordPress
Merlin Mann | Oct 28 2005
myStatus plugin for WordPress // eightface Remember the “status page” post? Well our pal, Dave Kellam, has whipped a sweet little WordPress plugin that makes it really easy to bullet out some points right on your page:
I agree with Dave. I like it nice and simple. Dave’s status page is fun, and here’s the first cut of mine. (Yeah, I know. Super-helpful, Merlin. Well, shut up, it’s Friday.) Update 2005-10-31 08:50:59With some able advice from Dave and Ethan I’ve added a more blown-out status page, which includes quick documentation on how to make your own. Fly your freak flag, Nerdlinger! 15 Comments

Very nice! Does LiveJournal allow plugins? If so, would it be possible for you to modify the WordPress one for LJ? Thanks! » POSTED IN:

No LJ plugins, as far as they know. They run the site rather tightly, and I’m sure they won’t allow users to add plug-ins. Then again, I’ve been wrong before ;) » POSTED IN:

If anyone is interested in a plugin for Movable Type that can be used in the creation of a status page, you may want to check out the Custom Fields plugin. The plugin not only allows a user to add custom fields to entry pages, but you are able to add custom fields to the author profiles. By adding custom fields to the author profiles, you can easily add and edit user “status” information. I have implemented this plugin on my new (not yet public) site, and it is just what I was looking for in a plugin: simple installation, simple setup of fields, and simple editing capabilities. » POSTED IN:

PHPCurrently is a PHP/MySQL script that does pretty much the same, is highly customizable, and will work with any CMS: http://codegrrl.com/scripts/phpcurrently/ :) » POSTED IN:

[…] Merlin Mann is a must read for anyone who is breathing. For instance, today I was hanging around at the office after 5PM and decided to check out his blog. He was writing about his idea that everyone should have a status page. He pointed to a new WordPress plugin that makes it easy to create one. I IM’d Fred at Weblogs Work and asked him to install it for me. He had it up by the time I got home (just now) and I was able to add my status to this blog (check it out to the right). Neat huh? Anyway, thank Merlin for chaning lives, one plugin at a time… […] » POSTED IN:

[…] This morning I took a big gulp of the Web 2.0 Kool-Aid. I was reading a post on 43 Folders, regarding personal status pages. You know, lots of websites have status pages, and here ol’ Merlin suggests that people start status pages too. It seemed like such a nifty idea at 5:45am that I decided to implement it; you can see it on the right-hand sidebar. Then, feeling inspired, I started tweaking with the site. I signed up for a Flickr account, and then for a del.icio.us account, for a Feedburner account, and for a last.fm account — before I knew it, I was on a full webdev binge. […] » POSTED IN:

[…] Second is myStatus as inspired by a post at 43folders.com. Simple really, but I update this quite a bit, more often than the site. See if I’m working days or nights and other things I may be into, since they change so often. Ideally, I think it would be neato to see how many unread emails I have and how many Skype voicemails I have waiting here just to get a feeling for where I’m at with things. […] » POSTED IN:

Easy gays!!! One way to avoid the potential danger lurking behind pop-up ads is to install software that will block pop-up ads and prevent them from appearing in the first place. Many ISPs offer tools to stop pop-ups from appearing. The Mozilla and Firefox Web browsers do not allow pop-ups. Even the Google Toolbar, which we discussed earlier, will block pop-up ads. » POSTED IN:
