Boilerplate Checklists

Does anyone use any sort of "boilerplate" checklists for completing a project? For example, I'm developing a website, and I want to write up a checklist of everything I need to do for it. I'm doing pretty much all of it except for writing content, but there are a lot of things that have to be done before other things can be done. In other words, do any of you use standard checklists for completing similar projects?

I suppose that this is...

I suppose that this is the sort of thing where you have to have a checklist when it's something new that you're not used to doing, or when you're at a new job or company and there are different procedures from what you're accustomed. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature.

But for this particular project (and for other websites) I suppose you could work from a general process like this:

  • Goals/Strategy
  • site map
  • sketches (wireframe layout)
  • Photoshop comps (detailed layout)
  • Semantic HTML
  • Create any other graphical/video elements (Flash movies, music, etc.)
  • CSS: work outside-in, top-down
  • Upload the deliverables (HTML, CSS, Flash, images)

I hadn't thought about the Marketing/PR aspects, though. Good call, troy.

But what about other projects that have a general sequence in order to get them finished? How often do you use a generic checklist?

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
