43Folders.com is Merlin Mann’s website about finding the time and attention to do your best creative work.

long-term calendar tool?

I'm hoping to lay out a long-range calendar (next 2-4 years) for myself and I'm not sure what the right tool for the job is. I'd like to make a kind of horizontal timeline, with rows for various projects. I'd like to be able to represent visually both points and spans (e.g. grant deadlines and grant durations). I do not need to concern myself with dependencies, resources, and the like that you might find in a pricy project management program.

Do any of you do such planning on a computer? What do you use? iCal tweaks, Excel tweaks, freeware options, services on the web?

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
