Too Many Podcasts?

I think I know perfectly well that I am subscribing to too many podcasts at the moment,I just need people to throw the fact at my face to stop this.
Just tell me,is 49 too many?
It's kinda out of control, and I am sorry but words just don't work for me,by the way, thanks Merlin for your post on cutting down the amount of information we force on our shoulder.

I think that depends on if you treat them as something you have to listen to (see Merlin's TiVo) or if you keep that many around for listening availability. Also, it depends on how often they are updated. I have only six podcasts (Ricky Gervais, Grassrootsmusic.com, 43F, NBA TV, Mr. Excel, Screencasts Online). Some of them don't update very often so I look forward to them and the ones that update daily I treat as someday maybe podcasts. So, if I don't have anything else to do, I can listen to them. Note I said can. The key is to recognize the amount of time they are taking from you or the amount of time you spend thinking about the podcasts you "have" to listen to. If you are only keeping them around as available listening but then you find yourself worrying about not listening to them, there are some steps you can take to mitigate those thoughts. 1) Make iTunes keep only the latest episode, played or not. 2) If you still have trouble, create a txt file of the various shows and their URLs you might be interested in listening to if you have discretionary time (or make it HTML so you can just open it in your browser and click) and only visit the list if you want to. It's much more on demand than even podcasting. HTH -Berko

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
