Apps for Academics?

Starting my postgraduate very soon.

What apps have you all found useful for thesis/dissertations? Or school in general?

Thanks,

re: Apps for Academics (Mac-Platform)

The following are worth considering:

Bookends X - tracks all of your bibliographical info and adds new sources very easily via an internet search. Also works with many word processors.

Nisus Writer Pro - still in beta right now but definitely worth pursing. The new pro version has all of the new features scholars are looking for (e.g. indexing, table of contents, cross references, etc). Works well with Bookends X and has the best find/replace features of any word processor. The power find/replace is worth the price of the whole program.

Curio - visual brainstorming and management of projects

Scrivener - project management tool for writers. Nice corkboard feature, full screen editing.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
