OS X Con: Life Hacks and 43 Folders Super Session

Macintosh’s OS X has rapidly become the platform of choice for expatriate UNIX and Windows hackers seeking powerful, stylish ways to run their work and hack their lives. They brought with them some amazing new insight and new applications that are changing Macs and their users in profound ways. “Life Hacks” warlord Danny O’Brien and 43 Folders’ Merlin Mann will plow through some of the hottest tools and tricks that Mac OS X black belts are using to run their lives. Danny and I are really looking forward to this. If you’re attending O’Reilly’s OS X Con next month, please do try to stop by, because I think it’ll be a lot of fun. I’m pretty confident assuring you there will be at least a couple of ninja tricks you probably haven’t seen elsewhere before.

If you haven’t signed up, you can register online. There appears to be a bunch of different discounts available, including a pretty sweet 65% off for full-time students. I believe the minimum package needed to attend our session is a Day Pass for Thursday (but I’m double-checking on that and will report back). Hope to see you there.

Update: I’m reliably informed by O’Reilly’s conscientious elves that there is a 30% discount for Apple Developer Connection Members (as well as Apple's employees). Apparently, you can sign up for ADC here, then register with the code “macosx04ae.” Reportedly works like a charm.

Also, it does look like the one-day pass would be the bottom-line cheapest way to go if our session is your primary interest in attending. I’ll let you know if I hear about anything more economical.

Bio

Merlin Mann is an independent writer, speaker, and broadcaster. He’s best known for being the guy who created the website you’re reading right now. He lives in San Francisco, does lots of public speaking, and helps make cool things like You Look Nice Today, Back to Work, and Kung Fu Grippe. Also? He’s writing this book, he lives with this face, he suffers from this hair, he answers these questions, and he’s had this life. So far.

Merlin’s favorite thing he’s written in the past few years is an essay entitled, “Cranking.”

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
