Hey Merlin,

Some bad news about Elvis Costello. Universal’s Hip-O label (part of Warner) bought the back catalogue. They are making available Costello’s old stuff starting May 1 exclusively to iTunes for a period of time, but it’s the 128kbps Fairplay stuff. Ick!

This had been partially leaked to the media and some high profile bloggers a few days ahead of time - but interestingly, many presumed that the entire Beatles collection would be made available for IPod digital downloads.

Man were they off! :-)

But come to think of it, this may start a groundswell of public demand.
