Cartoon: More productive in a coffee house?

I have seen several references on the web on how to beat procrastination and be more productive by changing work environment, mostly by going to the nearest coffee house.

Here is Scott Kurtz (PvP) take on this:

Guilty as charged

Gotta admit, I'm a big fan of this one myself. To the point that every coffee house in the town I work knows me by sight, if not by name...

Just can't beat that feeling of having someone else bring you coffee...

My latest find: someone sent me an email on
http://www.timequotient.com and I'm having a great time going through it.

I'm one of those people...

I'm one of those people who feels WAY more productive in a coffee shop than at home. Mainly I just can't stand for things to be "too quiet". I need the background noise.

If I'm working/studying from home I always end up futzing with the TV/Stereo/PC/Dog/Cat/etc...

Yeah, it's way too easy...

Yeah, it's way too easy at home for me to get up and do a little something here and there around the house, and realized I've killed my work time and finished very little work.

I can do well at the coffee shop, but I'm also guilty of the cartoon character's pitfall - sometime's I'm really productive, but at the wrong stuff.

One of my new duties is a weekly write up of the major events in my industry for senior management, and a coffee shop is very conducive to that. Just reading the more interesting articles and trying to come up with clever summaries.

That cartoon reminds me...Saturday night...

That cartoon reminds me...Saturday night I took my son to the Chicago Blackhawks @ Nashville Predators game in Nashville.

During the breaks in the action, they typically will play loud music and show shots of specific members of the crowd on the big screen on the scoreboard atop center ice. In the second period, 19,000 began to boo as there was a shot of this bald overweight guy in the stands with his...MACBOOK OPEN IN HIS LAP!!!!

He ended up being a contestant in the "fan of the game" contest. When they threw his picture up again...the chorus of boos resumed.

Some cute girl holding up a sign saying, "Don't mess with my TOOTOO" (referring to Jordin Tootoo) won it. And yes, I did catch that his jersey number is also two - two.

So I need to head to the local coffee house when things get crazy at home? I am getting better about it after working from home almost 2 years.

I guess the hardest part for me is lack of peer intervention or just having people around who understand what you are trying to do.

I might just have to visit Borders tonight and try it.

I love working out of...

I love working out of coffee shops. I am on the road quite a bit and the average hotel room is not setup for long stints. (IMHO).
However, I find in a good coffee shop. High speed internet, nice chairs, table and good coffee I am a little more productive.
