I just might have figured it out. I made the trigger option-cmd B as opposed to the others, and it works fine. I wonder why shift-cmd B did work?

Are you typing the period in "Books.txt"? What I suspect is happening is this:

- by typing the period, Quicksilver turns into text mode, thinking of that as a string, not a file.

- so when you bring up "append to," Quicksilver thinks the string "Books.txt" is the text to be appended, not the text file to which you want to append something.

Actually, I had two problems --

1) What you said.

2) I guess I was using a shortcut that was already in use. I really wish I could figure out how to use shift-cmd-space as a trigger -- but that won't work.

I'm curious now. Is it possible to create a trigger containing:
-the blank text entry panel
-append to...
-file.txt
?
or will it default to just a blank text entry with no other options selected?

What it appears you should be able to do is the reverse (with a slightly different action):

- file.txt
- append TEXT
- the blank text entry panel

(But I'm having trouble getting that action to show, though it's listed in my actions...)

EDIT: No, I'm wrong, that action is for appending multiple lines of text - it doesn't switch the "subject" and the "direct object" as I hoped.
