Data CD storage

I've been frustrated with my storage system for project backup and software CDs and think I've come up with a reasonable system I'd like to share with the forum.

Until recently I used 10, 3-ring binders with clear plastic sleeves for the CDs with a index on the binder spine. The pages sagged and the binders looked sloppy on the shelf and it always required opening at least two binders to find the needed CD, in spite of the the index.

The new system uses simple, home-made, wood CD storage boxes with small index tabs of cardboard. I looked at commercial CD boxes but they are all designed for jewel cased CDs or odd hanging sleeves. I wanted a high-density system that would accommodate CDs in standard paper sleeves. I was able to replace the 10 binders with just two fifteen inch CD boxes that are much more accessible.

The end result can be seen here:

I used alphabetic organization for the software CDs and categories for project CDs and made the labels with a Dymo labelwriter.

I hope you find this useful

Take care,

Chris
