Cell phone (not IPhone) with ICal integration
RM66 | Aug 17 2007
I've been using a Treo 650 to keep my calendar with me all the time, but it's starting to feel kind of clunky and i can get a new phone free from Verizon under their upgrade program. I don't use the cell for anything but calls and the calendar--so I don't really need e-mail integration or web browsing possibilities. I use Mac OS. Any recommendations for a phone that will sync reasonably well (and easily and without needing any 3rd party software or hacks to make it work) with ICal (by reasonably well, I mean that all the appointments in ICal show up)? As much as I love the design, I'm not ready to spring for an IPhone. Thanks 3 Comments

I have had pretty good results with most of my phones. The limitation (including iPhone) is that you don't get your multiple calendar setup on the phone. It's one calendar and you decide in iSync which calendar events go into if they are created on the phone. Check iSync compatibility here making sure Calendar is supported in the configurations at the bottom of the page and then play with the calendar application on the phone before you buy it as that will be the variable in the equation. Be cautious with Verizon, too, because they tend to restrict the capabilities of their phones, so if it is on the device list, Google for yourself for Verizon-specific reports. Good luck, and let us know what you decide to go with! »

Well, turns out that looking for a Verizon phone that works with a Mac is pretty much an exercise in futility. Apple does have a list of phones that will work with ISync, but there are few Verizon phones among them--basically just the Treo and the Blackberry. In the end, I decided to just get a phone to use as a phone and then get the new IPod Touch to use as my IPod and portable calendar. We'll see soon if that was a good decision. »
