Screen Cast
Johnny Baker | Sep 24 2007
Hey, does anyone know how to create a screencast? I need to create an informational/training video and thought this might do the trick. I know I could use the new keynote, but I’m interested to see if there is a better way. Thanks. 5 Comments

Since it sounds like you’re on a Mac (good man!), I’d use iShowU. It’s what we used for The Merlin Show, and I love it. You might also try Snapz Pro which some people like a lot. »

I tried out iShowU and it is awesome. Thanks for the heads up, it’s going to work perfectly for what I need. »
How I'm planning to enhance iShowU's outputSubmitted by guydickinson on September 24, 2007 - 7:55pm.
I’ve always stumbled a bit trying to record the narration at the same time as recording the actual screen activity…So, I was pleased just now when I noticed that the new (to me) iMovie (which is superb, by the way) has a voiceover feature - you can narrate any clip. Next time I do a screencast, I’ll focus on the screen interaction only, bring the *.mov into iMovie, edit it down, and then record the narration. Because I won’t have to concentrate on talking, I’ll also be able to bring mouse dimming effects from OmniDazzle as I’m recording the screen activity. Let us know how you get on with your screencast. »
Thanks for the tip on OmniDazzleSubmitted by JohnnyB on September 24, 2007 - 8:45pm.
That’s a neat little toy. Any way to use different effects at the same time. Ok, not at the same time, same time, but can I use a command to use, say, flashlight and another command to bring up comic book? Or is it a one at a time thing? Thanks for your input. »

Pretty sure it’s one effect at a time…but that’s the beauty of taking the video out of iShowU into iMovie - you’ll be able to pause, switch ‘dazzle’ and then carry on..edit the delays out, and voila! »
About JohnnyBBio Johnny is a fanboy. An un-organized one, but a fanboy never the less. He loves Mac (he’s new to the Mac universe, but he’s sold out) and if the MacBreak guys say he should buy something, or download something, or look at something or…you get the idea, he does. Johnny works at a place called Saddleback Church and is trying to bring many of the people there kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. Oh, Johnny’s wife wants you to know that he loves her very much and his daughters say they’re awesome. Which he does and they are. |
