Icons for Safari favorites

Cute little icons in Safari's bookmark barI’m a big fan of the Bookmarks Bar in Safari, and I try to keep mine tidy, up to date, and optimized for whatever projects I’m working on at the time.

You probably already know to rename and shorten the buttons to conserve space, but, by pulling up the “Show Special Characters” menu, you can also drop in Symbols and Zapf Dingbats to use like little icons.

If there’s an image that suits a given bookmark or folder, you can use just that single character and free up precious screen real estate for even more bookmarks. Plus it looks kind of cool.

Scott: It’s actually not a skin. A super-great little app called “Safari Enhancer” lets you—among many things—remove the yucky aluminum/chrome look from Safari.

Metallifizer is a haxie that lets you add or remove chrome almost everywhere.
