43F Meetup: January 12th @ House of Shields

House of ShieldsThe first-ever 43 Folders Meetup is officially on for MacWorld ’05 here in San Francisco next week. Windows users welcome, too, of course!

House of Shields
39 New Montgomery St., near Market St.
Wednesday, January 12th
5:00-7:00 pm

House of Shields is a five-ish minute walk from the Moscone. (Yahoo Local). We’ll be hanging out upstairs (in the back, steps to your right). Make sure to get there early, buy yourself a cool one, and nerd out with your people.

I humbly ask two things if you know you’re attending (and I really hope that you are):

  • R.S.V.P. - Leave a short reply in comments or if you’re pretty sure you’re coming. You can still show up at the last minute, of course, but I’d like to get a rough idea how many people plan to stop by.
  • Donate - Consider pitching in to rent our cocktail waitress. We get the upstairs to ourselves plus a dedicated waitron, but we need to pony up the dough to pay her (which seems entirely reasonable to me).. No need: see below...

I’m glad this is working out. Can’t wait to meet everybody and soak up the nerd vibe. Also, I think you out-of-towners will enjoy House of Shields. It’s relaxed and very old-timey.

More on HoS:

(Questions, clarification, directions, etc. via comments, por favor.)

Update: 2004-01-05, 1735 pst

So, guess what? The nice folks at a little company down in Cupertino have picked up the tab for our waitress. How nice is that? Their gift to the 43F community.

Thanks a million, Apple! And special thanks to the elves who made this happen. What a lovely gesture.

(No need, then, for further donations to cover the hall; but anything in the kitty on Wednesday goes straight to a round or two for the nerds. Onward!)

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
