NPR : The Mystery of ‘Sweet Caroline’ and the Red Sox

How did people start singing “Sweet Caroline” at Red Sox games? Morning Edition puts Susan Orlean on the case:

Commentator Susan Orlean takes on a great mystery of baseball and a stadium anthem. She visits Boston’s Fenway Park to unlock the secret connection between the Red Sox, singer Neil Diamond, and loyal fans.

I won’t spoil the ending for you—it’s a very enjoyable little journey Orlean takes—but I like what it says about the simple roots of a popular meme.

Thanks for posting this, Merlin....

Thanks for posting this, Merlin. I don't get up early enough to listen to Morning Edition, so I would have otherwise missed the explanation to the mystery of "Sweet Caroline" at Fenway Park.

I will sleep better tonight because of you.
