How is your desk organized?

Hi everyone.

I am new to GTD and I need some advice on organizing my desk. Currently, I have a wire inbox and a stack of those lovely black, plastic, stackable trays labled "Agendas," "To Read," "Waiting for," "Delegated," "Someday," and "Projects." In each tray, I have manilla folders, neatly labled, with the relevant stuff in each folder.

I should also say that I use Outlook 2003 for XP with the GTD plug in. It seems like I feel a need to make my physical desk a mirror (with the same folders) as Outlook. The problem is that, on a physical desk, space is at a premium, and I don't like working at an ugly desk.

So any suggestions as to how you organize your space would be most welcomed. It seems like the hardest part of GTD to me (other than writing next actions instead of vague "tasks") is tying it all together (tying Outlook to folders on the computer to physical folders on the desk to folders at home, etc.)

Simple is better for me

You didn't mention whether this desk was at home or at work. I have one of each, so here's how I do it. I have a set of folders that I always carry with me in my computer bag. These folders are labeled for contexts, like @Errands, @Office, @Home, @School, @Review, etc. All files come out of the bag when I get to a desk, appropriate content gets dumped on the desk for processing, and the rest goes into a file drawer for quick access. I have a clothespin attached to my computer bag zipper to remind me to get the folders out of the drawer again. I used to pop these folders in a second file tray, but I like hiding them away.

Office Desk
I use a single inbox on my desk. A file cabinet drawer holds a file folder per project. Electronic project files are on the server, accessible from anywhere.

Home Desk
I use a single inbox on my desk. File folders for reference material are in a file cabinet. Someday/Maybe folders live in a separate drawer, as do home projects and school subjects/projects. Electronic project files are on the server, accessible from anywhere.

Review
I do two reviews weekly, a work review and a home/school review.

Summary:
One local inbox, one local drawer, one web accessible location, many folders everywhere. :)
