Patrick Rhone: 'Data Point'?

In the white paper mentioned in this 43Folders post, the author includes a notation for a "data point". I am curious, what is a data point?

A good example of a data point... Hmmm... For instance, if the speaker cites a statistic that is important in the context of the subject you are taking notes on. I mark such things with the triangle. I mainly use this when taking notes and not so much for capture. But even during capture it could be useful, say if you hear a good quote or statistic that you want to file away for future reference.
