Religious Backgrounds

After reading the GTD 'cult' thread, I thought I'd ask what kind of religious or philosophical backgrounds everyone comes from. It may be too sensitive a topic (just like at parties, you shouldn't talk about religion or politics), but it'd be interesting to see where people are coming from. Obviously some see a Buddhist influence in GTD, and others may see something else? Or others (like myself) come from a different background and wouldn't know the difference.

Again, I know it's a pretty big can of worms, but I think the people around here are thoughtful enough to take everything in stride. There are quite a few thinkers here.

I'm a "true" agnostic. ...

I'm a "true" agnostic. That is, I'm not a "lazy Christian" who just wants to sleep in on Sundays and not feel bad about it. In my experience (YMMV) I don't believe I can truly know or understand God or know of any existence implied therein. There are times when I'm convinced there is no God (or god's for that matter) and others where I'm just struck dumb by the brilliance in the world around me.

Chrome47: I'm fascinated by your take on Christianity. Well, I suppose its not all that uncommon, I've just never heard it explained that way. What also got me was that it is at the same time similar/dissimilar to what I hold to be true in my life...
"Without a god to forgive me, I have only myself to live with. That's much harder than one might think."

I'm glad you started this thread, I really enjoy learning about other people's beliefs!!

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
