Wardrobe Hacks

I'm working on a minimalist, utilitarian wardrobe.

I don't want to have to think about dressing and I don't want to help a dry cleaner with his car payments.

I am lucky to be able to dress as I like, within reason. I live in a hot climate (Dallas), where we recently enjoyed some lovely 100 degree April days.

My current thinking is to go to 100% khakis and plain white t-shirts. Short sleeve in summer, long sleeve in winter.

Boring, yes, but totally inoffensive. I can keep the t-shirts nice by simply bleaching them and trying to keep them relatively unwrinkled. The khaki's can similarly be maintained somewhat unwrinkled and be fine.

Are any of you doing wardrobe hacks?

I wear a lot of...

I wear a lot of jeans, etc. at home, but during the summer I have to dress up a bit for an internship. It's a three hour drive, so I stay there for the week, and don't like to pack a lot. My hacks:

- Find something that fits? Buy more than one. Anyone with a non-optimal body type/size will recognize the pure joy of find a pair of dress pants or blouse that fits beautifully. I buy bottoms in neutral colours and tops in a mix of neutrals and fun colours.
- Buy comfortable, yet somewhat stylish shoes, in a neutral colour. I tend to wear the same pair of shoes day in/day out for work. I might occasionally throw in a pair of sandals for a fun Friday, but that's about it. And I refuse to buy cheap (non-leather) shoes anymore. It's just not worth it. They don't look good for long, they don't let your feet breathe, and they're uncomfortable.
- Minimal jewelry. In fact, the only time I change my jewelry is when I'm dressing up for a special occasion.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
