Goal Setting

This may or may not be the right place for this discussion, but I am putting it here.

I have been re-reading GTD and rethinking a LOT about my system and my usage of it. I have been feeling that there is a missing piece to my total successful immersion into GTD...Goals.

I have never really set goals in any phase of my life, but I feel that I need to visit this topic and see if it is, indeed, the missing piece.

So, my question to you, my 43F brethren, what are some resources (authors, books, websites, etc.) that aid you in setting the goals in your life.

Thanks,
Michael

Hmmm... Well, I think that...

Hmmm... Well, I think that is pretty much what the idea of "Vertical Mapping" as set forth (not very deeply) in Getting Things Done is all about. This is basically the practice of making sure that your actions are aligned vertically with your life's goals - both short and long term. David covers this in depth in the Roadmap seminar and for me this made attending that well worth the money even though I was already deep in the GTD.

I have mentioned this here on the forum before and have written about it in greater detail on my blog. Therefore, I don't want to sound like a broken record but...

Vertical Mapping, IMHO, is a crucial part of GTD as it gives meaning to every next action and drives the reasons behind the "Three D's" (doing, deferring and delegating). Only after understanding this did I really start to not only get things done but get the right things done.

There is my two cents (but please adjust for inflation)

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless
