Beyond your General files, what are your preferred ways to file/keep up with bills, receipts, etc.?

I'm trying to think of the simplest way, and am not sure whether to do it by month, by type of bill (cell phone, electricity, etc.) or ... ?

What works best for you?

I wasn't really suggesting you not keep the receipts -- sorry if it came across that way. What I was trying to suggest was that you do away with all the manipulation of the receipts. Log the expenses, knowing that IF an audit occurs, you'll have to sort through the envelope at that time, but that if the audit doesn't occur, you've saved some time on sorting and stapling paper-shuffling.
