organizing my hd/defying Apple (TextEdit)

Consolidation is the key. I only need one text program, and I'm currently enjoying Smultron. Therefore I don't need TextEdit. Here's my question: if I wipe TextEdit's existence from my hard drive, will anything go boom?

I'm usually fearless about such things. The reason I'm concerned is that SimpleText, then TextEdit, have been so integrated into the Apple OS...I have visions of its regenerating itself, or borking my OSX so that it won't boot...

This reads as paranoid, though it made perfect sense in my head. :o

Any thoughts?

Carla, it doesn't strike me as inherintly dangerous. You might end up with a long series of annoying warnings about not being able to find it when opening various file types. Of course IANAAE (That's "I Am Not An Apple Engineer."), so make a backup and all those other things you would do when mucking around with OS X and it's bundled apps.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

Scared Shitless

Merlin’s scared. You’re scared. Everybody is scared.

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
