ADC: Analog to Digital Converter economically?

Are there any solutions to converting handwriten notes in journals to text on the mac?

I'm wanting to take my notes and convert them to a digital version that I can further manipulate to my needs.

I just see it useful to have an analog archive and be able to convert that to digital pretty easily. I could type all my notes, but that becomes daunting after a while.

I'm just wondering if there are solutions to scanning handwritten notes and having software take over to convert it to text.

Or if someone does something like this and what success they are having.
Or even a way people use their analog notes to compliment their digital notes.

Thanks.

I like the idea of scanning in the cards. I'd be able to drop the image into EverNote or maybe a TiddlyWiki and type in some keywords.
I don't have a scanner, but maybe I could use the one at work. Is there a way to set a scanner to scan "to file", that is, automatically save as a 3x5 image?
