New to Mac

Would appreciate any suggestions on making the transition from PC. Links, helpful books, etc. I have worked in the IT industry for 25 years so I am not a beginner but I know I will have a lot to learn and get used to. Any links to info or recommendations would help... links, books, software you find a MUST have, etc.

For one thing, I would like to convert an Excel spreadsheet over to the MAC. What is a good spreadsheet for MAC (Office for Mac, or something else) that can handle importing a SS created on the PC.

I know I can run Parallels but would like to know what a good SS is on the MAC.

Any info would be useful. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the club, so...

Welcome to the club, so to speak. Although Berko pretty much nailed every piece of software that I believe is essential I thought I would provide some links for your easy clickage.

As to my opinion about the spreadsheet, I've tried Google spreadsheets, OpenOffice, and Excel. I always end up going back to Excel. It just works and doesn't look like some crazy X11 port (like OpenOffice). Of course, I'm not a heavy duty spreadsheet user so take that with a grain of salt.

Here's the list:
NetNewsWire
Quicksilver
AppZapper
TextMate

As to newsreaders, there are many for the Mac. Most of them cost money but Vienna is a good open-source newsreader that is obviously free. NetNewsWire is basically the standard and is what I use after switching from an early version of Vienna. I haven't used Vienna in a while so it may have improved its features and speed but it was slower than NNW the last time I used it.

Hope it helps.
