Mac Mail Question

Okay, I don't even know what to call the email that comes on the Mac when it's shipped. It just says "Mail." Anyway, that's what I'm using.

And I finally took the time to set up different folders so that different kinds of mail go into them, and that is really great.

My problem is, I have more than one account/email address.

I am subscribed to a couple of email lists with an email address I created just for that purpose, so the list mail won't be cluttering up my mailbox and overwhelming the mail I need to see promptly when it shows up. I can only reply to those emails from a specific email address.

The problem is, for some reason when I hit reply, Mail is automatically opening from the wrong account. I repeatedly hit send only to have stuff bounce back at me.

How do I change it so it knows which account to send from?

I'm IN the right folder when I hit reply, if that makes sense, but sending from the wrong account address.

Thanks!

"Another thing to check is...

"Another thing to check is the default address in Mail > Preferences > Composing > Send new mail from:"

Hmm. I went to Composing and don't have that option.

Before I follow those links I'll explain my situation in more detail.

My "dot mac" account/email address automatically goes to Apple Mail.

I also have my own domain, with three email addresses that go there. One email address is for business. One is for email lists that otherwise would overload the first. And the third is for a single email list that gets so much traffic it would overwhelm them all if it weren't separate. It's also one I can go days without checking, so like to have it removed from the others.

So I have:

"me@mac.com" account.

"professional-me@patriciaburroughs.com" account.

"yahoolist-me@patriciaburroughs.com" account.

"ridiculously-large-email-list-me@patriciaburroughs.com" account.

So that's four email addresses. I don't know if any of those are considered aliases, so I can't answer that question. Four different accounts, though.

Then I have separate folders for email to go into.

A folder for email from my agent and atty.

A folder for mail from each of the email lists.

A folder for email from my husband.

The folder from the analogGTD yahoo list always tries to reply from my "mac.com" account, even though the email is being delivered to my "yahoolist-me@patriciaburroughs.com" account.

I would assume that it would automatically respond from the account that received it, but it doesn't.

Yet a different yahoolist folder responds properly from the correct account, the one that that analogGTD list SHOULD be responding from.
