Podcast Management
Sean Hutchison | Oct 26 2007
I am currently subscribed to about 25 podcasts, each with either daily, bi-weekly, or weekly release. I benefit from listening to them all, but I feel like I don’t have enough free time to do so. Mostly I do my listening as I walk around campus or do odd things around the house, but often I need to focus on written material which prevents me from simultaneously understanding the podcasts. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to digest lots podcasts in a very structured and efficient manner? Is 25 podcasts a lot, or not much at all? Anything you have to say about this subject will interest me. Thanks! POSTED IN:

Re: Podcast Management
I had to seriously cut down on my Podcast consumption… but my ritual now is over lunch. I bring my lunch, hide in the office kitchen (or outside if it is nice) and eat/listen to podcasts for an hour. Keeps me caught up, away from my desk, and out of restaurants. Saves me money and keeps me up to date on my listening.
RE: Podcast Management
After chopping the number of podcasts in half, I have found that filtering feeds with Yahoo Pipes (pipes.yahoo.com) is very nice. I am not a sports fan and I filter a feed or two to get rid of the sports related casts.
YMMV
Try this if you are on a Mac
Cut back on the total number of podcasts, if possible, and then:
1- Get Audacity 1.3.3 beta. 2- Set up a chain that will increase the tempo of an mp3 by 70% (or whatever you like). 3- Use Vienna to manage and download podcasts to a single folder. 4- Run the Audacity chain on several podcasts in that folder in a batch together. 4b- Do something else. 5- Copy the processed podcasts to your mp3 player and listen to them in normal voice (pitch) but at faster speed! This will cut the duration most of them down by 40%.
(Alternatively, apply the chain to podasts within the iTunes podcast directory)
