GMail hacked - Suggested alternatives?

Coming up to 7 weeks ago my 4 year old gmail account was hacked. Google have sent me any number of standard form emails promising action but nothing has happened so I have lost 3 years worth of email and contacts. Let that be warning to back up data in your webmail account as well!

In the mean time I have been using a .mac trial account but that has now expired and so I am looking for an alternative. Ideally it would have the following features:

  • Able to get mail from other POP3 boxes
  • Able to use my own domain for the email address
  • A reasonable amount of storage - at least 2-3 gig
  • Not append ads or similar to emails
  • Have a fast and sensible user interface. Something at least better than 1&1!

Any thoughts?

You don’t mention how your

You don't mention how your account was hacked.

Did Google have a security loop hole? Did someone guess your password?

You might have the same issue with another webmail host at some point. Not only do you need to find one that promises a daily backup, but one that is responsive and has all the features you love about Gmail. Are you willing to pay for this?

Google's free services are wonderful but, in the end, you get what you pay for.
