Unsure how to implement sharing item at random date

Most methods in GTD are logically quite obvious, but I'm unsure of the solution to this one.

Suppose you have an item you want to give to a friend in person (i.e., it can't be posted).

You're not sure when you're going to next be seeing this friend, so it can't be put in your calendar.

It's not good to put it in an action list, @Friend for example, as when you check this list (when you're with them), you won't have thought about the item to give them.

My only conclusion is to get into the habit of checking the action list of somewhere I'm about to go, before I go there. But this won't work all the time.

Anyone got a better solution?

A Few Ideas

In order of simplicity:

1 - I'd put the item in my purse / car (or suitcase, if the friend is a plane away) so I couldn't forget to bring it -- it'd already be with me.

2 - I'd mail it. (I've had this situation come up before and always chose this option.)

3 - I'd add it to my @ERRANDS context, which I keep in my Moleskine in my purse and look at frequently.

4 - I keep a list of all my personal contacts and the last date I contacted each one, which I review during my weekly review. I'd asterisk that name as a frequent reminder that I have something to give them.
