New iPhone to-do list?

Hey all,

I have an iPhone and am on it much more than I am on my laptop or a computer (I am always in different places and on the move for work). So I have been looking for a very functional to-do list for the iphone. Of all that I have found, I guess I like Vitalist the best, but some of the key features (to me) on the iphone version are limited (filters especially).

So I have been spending some time working on a new to-do list that a) is a bit of a different approach than some of these others, using some GTD techniques, but also getting rid of some that seem impractical to me and tend to slow me down and b) that is fully functional on the iphone as opposed to having the iphone version being a “lite” version.

I have a developer who is just starting to work on this with me, and I am funding it myself.

My question is this: Am I crazy? Should I do this? Am I naive in thinking that I can come up with a easier, more streamlined and practical organizational to-do system than someone who has been thinking about it for 20 years? I just keep coming up against a) wanting something to work in specific ways that none of these current apps do and b) that some of these apps just don’t seem realistic and seem too cumbersome - mostly through the amount of steps you need to go through in the interface… not some much in the concept.

But on the other hand, if it’s easy to use and works well, people might like it, right? And I know I would use it if nothing else… but not sure if that is worth the money.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Beck

Re: New iPhone to-do list?

I always have ideas for new websites and always manage to talk myself out of them. Here are some questions I ask myself that help me get past that:

  • Would I use this product?
  • How many similar sites are there?
  • Wow that's alot Kyle. Now, did you know nearly a billion people use the internet?
  • What's my goal with this? Hobby, form a company around it, etc.

There are so many ways to manage todo's that there is always room for more options. Remember, this world needs more failed ideas than dormant ideas. It never hurts to try. Good luck and don't talk yourself out of it!

re: New to iPhone

Have you looked at Remember the Milk, Toodledo? And I see that Nozbe has a new iPhone tool as well.

Noter is what you want!

http://noter.dbelement.com

I discovered it recently and I can’t believe I ever lived without it. It stores notes OFFLINE on the iPhone, but once you’re online you can sync with your account and get all of your notes on your PC/Mac.

This tool is the quicksilver for my iPhone. Just fantastic.

Best part of it…you can use Labels to organize your notes.

Toodledo does!

After trying many of the online to-do list/GTD apps out there, I’m convinced that Toodledo is the best. It’s not only awesome on my Mac, but on the iPhone, it really rocks. The UI is clean and attractive, and virtually all the features that you’d pay extra for with sites like Remember the Milk and Nozbe and Vitalist are free. And it works great with Jott, too. My only regret is that I didn’t find this sooner!

Hi, Did you try

Hi,

Did you try Gtdagenda?

It has a multitude of options, GTD style, but also others like Goals, Checklists, Schedules, Calendar.

And of course, an iPhone version is available at http://www.gtdagenda.mobi

Shoplist... the best list app that can be adapted to GTD style

Shoplist is available through the installer on the iPhone and iPod touch (you have to have installed community sources) and is by far the best application that allows me to closely resemble the GTD system.

You could see some pictures of it right here:

It is both simple and effective… and until Things or Omnifocus allows me to truly sync my lists between my computer and iPhone this is my BEST bet all around.

It differ from others like getthemilk and tadalists in that your iPhone needs no internet connection whatsoever and all your data is secure in your iphone and ready to be entered/accessed from it at any time you think is convenient to you (a huge plus).

Hi, As with the last

Hi,

As with the last update, now Gtdagenda.com has full Someday/Maybe functionality, you can easily move your tasks and projects between “Active”, “Someday/Maybe” and “Archive”. This will clear your mind, and will boost your productivity.
