Mail.App: Single keypress move to folder?

As I anxiously await the Google Gods to bless me with IMAP support I've been thinking about how I will go about reorganizing mail.app. I can't wait to be able to have 'one stop shopping' for my email organizational needs.

Given that I am a keyboard shortcut ninja with Gmail's web interface (and mail.app for that matter) I was curious if there's a way to reproduce some of the common gmail shortcuts. i.e. hitting 'y' to archive a message, etc.

Is this something that can be accomplished in Applescript or perhaps automator after I get Leopard installed tomorrow?

iKey

If you buy iKey ($30), you can use keyboard combos to trigger actions. iKey has its own interface for designing macros, or you can insert Applescript code. In addition, if you save an Applescript or an Automator action as an app, you can use an iKey shortcut to launch it.

iKey also lets you map particular macros so they only work within a certain application, so if you inadvertently hit your defined key-combo when you're not in your mail app it won't do anything.

If you're trying to re-create Gmail, though, you'll want to make sure your shortcuts include a modifier key (e.g. command-y instead of just y) so that you won't accidentally set off the action every time you hit that letter while typing an email.
