Podophile on Actiontastic for GTD with your iPod
Merlin Mann | Dec 28 2006
Getting Things Done With Your iPod My head swims with the number of Mac GTD apps that have sprung up over the last year or so, one of which is the Quicksilver-friendly Actiontastic. Although I haven’t spent more than a few minutes playing with Actiontastic, as described by Podophile it appears to merit a look for Hipster PDA-centric iPod fans:
Funny thing. My newish Treo died two weeks ago, and I’ve been too busy to get it fixed. Yet, pretty much as I’d predicted to myself when I bought it late last summer, I’m not really missing it. I still was using index cards for on-the-go capture, and, thus far, since the Treo’s demise, I find myself no poorer for not being able to check email on MUNI. Yeah, I definitely will get it fixed (Man, I love having Google Maps with me everywhere), but it is interesting how fundamentally a Hipster POD-esque approach must have been encoded on my brain. Anyone know a way to combine something like Actiontastic w/a Treo so that editing is possible on the go? I’m just starting GTD and using index cards to do it with (they’re quicker and fun to play with…easy to take out of your pocket anywhere) and learn the system, but it would be nice to be able to sync this stuff electronically. Thx! »

I find myself no poorer for not being able to check email on MUNI. That’s a telling statement. I feel the same way about my smartphone. I tell myself I need to be able to check email and read the news on the go, even though I’m never more than 20 minutes away from a computer. I still do it because I have the thing and because I can, but in the back of my mind it always feels it would have been time better spent reading a book or just sitting quietly and thinking. »

Slickest app I Have seen in some time. When the developer adds the ability to import existing Tasks from iCal, I’ll likely make Actiontastic my primary GTD tool. He has added the importing ability to his “brainstorming” todo list, so I fully expect he’ll have that ability in pretty short order. I’m new to Mac, but this and QuickSilver will no doubt turn me into a die-hard Mac promoter. »

I dumped my connectivity on the Razr. It was only $5/month, but I never used it. I use an art pad for capture (big purse!) and my nano for 411 and lists. I had to go through and create a group for the nano (too many contacts = gigundus pain scrolling) but it’s pretty neato and small. »

I am playing with Actiontastic and I haven’t got very far yet. So far I can’t get notes to go from Quicksilver to the Actiontastic Inbox even though I have followed the Quicksilver README over and over! Has anyone gotten this to work? »

While I tried using my iPod for that I found I was still using my Hipster most things. But I did find that it works great for holding things that don’t need to be “touched” as often like my amazon wishlist, and non-grocery shopping lists and the like. So if I am at the library I can just look up some the books on my list and see if they are available, it is a big list so whatever comes up as checked in I can get. »
