Treo 650
willcodeforfoo | Oct 26 2005
I have the option of getting a Treo 650 at work, and I think I'm gonna go for it. I like that I'll be able to access email, web (limited), SSH (experiences with this?), iSync with iCal and Address Book. I was going to wait for the 700w as Palm OS seems a little... dated. But Windows isn't much better and there would be no iSync joy. Any tips? Hacks? Recommendations for apps? 12 Comments

there's a group that was suggested to me on the 43folders google group called gtd_palm for yahoo. I use shadow and I used memo leaf but it wasn't that useful for me. »

Slightly OT: When the Treo switches to Windows, will a Palm OS version still be available? I was bummed to hear about the change, because I was kinda looking forward to getting one of these some day. »

Considered waiting for the 700w, but it pretty much is just a 650 without Mac love, so yeah. »

But Windows isn't much better and there would be no iSync joy. I don't use a Palm device anymore, but I use a port of PuTTY for UIQ on my P910. A quick glance found this; http://www.sealiesoftware.com/pssh/ which is similar and would surely work. If you can, stick to using a '650 on T-Mobile, their unlimited data plans are cheaper than Cingular. If you can get locked in at unlimited Internet for 19 bucks, once T-Mobile throws down EDGE in your market you may get grandfathered in. There is nobody that can beat that price for that much bandwidth on mobile devices. Its the main reason I use T-Mobile (that and they don't have any GSM 850 towers so I don't have to buy quad-band phones all the time or lose GSM 900 in EU and Asia!) »
Missing SyncSubmitted by wood.tang on January 31, 2006 - 4:30pm.
The Missing Sync looks like it can sync a Windows Mobile device with a Mac: http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_windowsmobile.php Having used both a Windows Mobile gadget and various Palms, I'd say that the Palm OS is a lot more user-friendly, at least as far as GTD-type apps like the calendar, to-do list, memos, etc. Nerds will disagree about the performance and graphics and such, but the way the Treo integrates its 4-way button with the Palm OS navigation is money. As far as the future of the Palm OS, does the Treo 700w mean it's dead, or will there be a 700p in the near future? »

Treo680 + Missing SyncSubmitted by Mobi on February 5, 2008 - 4:06am.
Missing Sync does not work well with Treo … at least with our 680. In Western Australia we find that if daylight saving is switched on on the Treo, it exports to iCal on the Mac network an hour out of sync. In addition, it comes up on the Mac as being set in the same timezone as “Casey/Antartica”!!! If we set the Treo to respond to daylight saving parameters, it backs up to iCal an hour out the other way. The only way we’ve been able to trick it is to set it for a country in our normal (non daylight saving) timezone, that maintains standard time throughout the year. I find the support unhelpful both from Missing Sync and the Palm … despite what are obviously their best intentions and efforts. We’re about ready to give up on Palm/Treo products after having supported them for many years. And it’s likely that the products will shortly find propulsion as self-destructing missiles. Has anyone overcome this problem? »

Nothing definitive to answer, but I've seen various Palm fan sites with posts about a new CDMA (Sprint) Palm Treo coming out in the March-April timeframe. »
