Holy Crap, I just saw...

Holy Crap, I just saw this! Here's the link to this new magic-bullet information management software:
http://www.barebones.com/products/yojimbo/index.shtml

I've been on the verge of seriously trying StickyBrain/SOHO Organizer, but now Yojimbo looks to be a competitor. What to do?

I have been trying it...

I have been trying it out since the release and it seems pretty cool. I am a little unclear on some of the fundamentals though. For instance, does the app copy files I add and store them somewhere or does it store links to the files? Will I end up this tons of dupes or not? Questions...

From the looks of it,...

From the looks of it, if you're using DEVONthink, there is nothing to see here.

Thanks for pointing this out....

Thanks for pointing this out. I've been waffling around with DEVON, Sticky Brain, Mori, and even VoodooPad. There are certain features I prefer in each one, but I haven't quite gelled with any of them yet. Looking forward to trying this out mostly, I admit, because I lurve BBEdit and Mailsmith.

Okay, I downloaded the demo. The best features for me are the several different ways of adding info in the first place. You can apply color labels, although simply changing all the colors to white basically gives you a tag without your list looking like a rainbow. However, you can only apply one label per item. The major, cannot-live-without missing feature is custom smart collections. There are several pre-defined such as item type (note, bookmark, password, etc.), flagged status, and recently added (the criteria for "recent" is not adjustable). Impossibly, you cannot create *any* smart collections of your own, not even simple ones for each label. Anything other than the defaults must be a static, manual collection.

There are a few other things I would like to see, but that one is huge, especially for the $40 price tag. Guess this isn't going to work for me either. I think I need to learn to love text.

Every time I try to...

Every time I try to drag a URL icon into it, it crashes. Some of my Web Archives crash it, too.

Well, time changes everything, huh?

Well, a little time has passed, and I have permanently switched from SOHO Notes to Yojimbo for the heavy lifting in my life. Now that Yo allows me to drag all kinds of stuff like images and URLs into it (like SOHO used to let me do), sync across the interweb to my work Mac, I love it. In that frightening, how-did-I-ever-live-without-this kind-of way. //k
